What is the Extreme Reading Relay?

The Extreme Reading Relay is a National awareness campaign and fundraising event where invited schools, in partnership with the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people in a reading relay.   Students from schools across the nation will participate in this historic celebration of literacy; demonstrating that all struggling readers can learn to read successfully and become lifelong learners.  The second annual Extreme Reading Relay will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013.

IDA will provide each participating school and their students with all the resources and support they need to be successful both in raising awareness and in fundraising.

How does the Extreme Reading Relay work?

We have a very streamlined registration process this year!  Each school must have one contact person.  The contact person will be provided with a link to an online registration form.  IDA will receive the online applications and register students on the fundraising platform as team members of their school.  Students (and/or their parents) will receive an email with a link to their online fundraising page.  Once registered, each participant will be able to send out emails to their family and friends to support them in the Relay.  In order to read in the Relay, students will have to raise a minimum of $100.

What is the World Record we are trying to break?

We are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most people in a reading relay across multiple venues. (The current record is 2012 people.)

What does each school get for participating?
  • Schools receive 40% of what they raise.
  • Professional promotion through all media venues locally and nationally.
  • The opportunity to compete and win the Highest Fundraising School and Highest Fundraising Individual. Awards include registration, accommodations and travel to IDA's 63rd Annual Conference and more.
  • EVERYTHING you need to succeed and guidance along the way.
