2012 Unsung Heroes

In March 2012, the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) launched the Honor a Teacher campaign to recognize outstanding educators. Individuals were asked to nominate an “unsung hero,” someone who had made a significant impact on their life or the life of their child. The campaign was met with resounding success. The educators that were nominated each received a letter telling them who nominated them and why they were an “unsung hero.”
The campaign culminated with a drawing for one free conference registration, a $250 travel stipend, and three nights’ accommodations to attend IDA’s 63rd Annual Conference: Reading, Literacy & Learning from October 24-27, 2012 in Baltimore, Maryland. Natalie Allen, a Peru, New York based teacher, won the drawing.
“We are so grateful for all of the amazing teachers that work hard every day to teach children how to read,” said Steve Peregoy, the Executive Director of the International Dyslexia Association. “This campaign has really brought to light all of the dedicated teachers around the country that are devoted to improving literacy among school children.”
Listed below are the names of all of the nominated “Unsung Heroes” of 2012.
