History
Founded in 1972, the Dyslexia Association of Ireland (DAI) aims to promote the understanding, treatment and prevention of the problems which can be associated with dyslexia, a specific learning disability. The association lobbies for appropriate services for people with dyslexia, and also acts as a service provider, offering assessment, specialist tuition, and training. The association also aims to increase the public awareness and understanding of dyslexia.
DAI is a membership based Association currently representing over 3,000 families and individuals all over Ireland. Its membership also includes teachers, psychologists and other professionals. DAI currently has a nationwide network of 34 Branches and Workshops offering local community based services.
DAI is a founder member of the European Dyslexia Association which now has over twenty-five member countries. DAI is also a founder member of Spectrum, an umbrella group for people with hidden learning difficulties. DAI is a member of the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and a Global Partner of the International Dyslexia Association. DAI is also a member of the Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) and the Wheel.
