Honoring a Teacher - The Unsung Heroes

Everyone can remember at least one teacher who made a significant impact on his or her life.  For a student with dyslexia, that impact can result in a child’s ability to read, to self-advocate, to fit in, to gain self-confidence, and even to smile.  It is likely you have encountered one of these “Unsung Heroes” – someone who supported and strengthened you and your child during your time of need.

HTTP://www.interdys.org/ewebeditpro5/upload/classroom.jpgEach Spring, we invite parents everywhere to join us in recognizing these outstanding educators by celebrating National Teacher’s Day and supporting the International Dyslexia Association in their honor. Let a special teacher, educator, tutor, or other professional know how much you appreciate his or her special commitment to you and your child, by recognizing him or her as an “Unsung Hero” for National Teachers Day.  Without specifying amounts, we will send a letter informing each individual you choose to honor of your thoughtfulness.

By making an “Honoring A Teacher” contribution of $35, $50, $75, $100, $150 or more, you can pay tribute to one of the “Unsung Heroes” who has touched your life in a special way.

The Teacher-Student relationship is as special to them as it is to you, and they will be so grateful and appreciative that you have honored them in such a special way.  Hearing the words “thank you” from a parent and student is more precious than any prestigious accolade or award they could ever receive.

The 2013 Honor a Teacher campaign is not yet open, Please check back in early spring.

In observance of National Teacher’s Day, all teachers honored will be placed in a drawing for one free conference registration, $250 travel stipend and three nights’ accommodations to attend IDA’s Annual Conference on Reading, Literacy & Learning held each fall.

Your tax deductible donation supports the IDA in its efforts to promote literacy through research, education, and advocacy.  Remember that no matter what level of support you choose – every dollar counts.

If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Kristen Penczek, Interim Executive Director, at kpenczek@interdys.org or 410-292-0232 for more information.
